Building in Public Update - July 2023
Hey, welcome to Inside the Build. This is essentially what I’m hoping will be a monthly series where I cover the ins and outs of what I’m working on.
I left my job in May and decided to start a holding company with Max called Eight Parallel.
We’ll be using this holding company to build apps in the no-code space - specifically for Webflow and Framer.
Let’s dive in.
To gather some working capital to cover our costs, Max and I teamed up to provide consulting services for our clients. We’ll be using this capital we earned to cover our runway.
Our focus right now is just on design and product consulting for clients - currently, we have 2 clients in the healthcare space.
Here is a preview of how we structured our client engagements; this covers our approach and how we work:
So let’s dive into the part where we’re actually building these apps.
We decided to start with Humblytics - this was created out of our own need. When we previously ran Blackcreek (our agency), to track conversions and clicks for client sites, we had to install Google Tag Manager for each client, then add in code variables and have dependencies on our developers when we needed help.
We built this simple analytics tool for Webflow to streamline this process.
Install a simple script and we start tracking everything.
We’re about a month in, and we have: 40 users, 80 websites, 9 paying customers.
The biggest challenge so far has been managing time between our client work and this product, so we haven’t been shipping as much.
When OpenAI released ChatGPT, we thought about bringing the same experience into Slack for ourselves. We decided to productize it and see if others would purchase it for their teams.
We got 3 paying customers, but to be honest, I don’t see this product reaching product-market fit.
Distribution is hard, and it seems like it's becoming saturated.
No Code Jobs
Onto my personal projects - This is a job board I built a while back. It’s a fun little side project I’ve built because of my passion for Webflow and other no-code tools.
This one’s been burning money so far, with no revenue generated.
Nothing substantial to share about this yet, just focusing on running the job board and generating traffic for it.
That’s it for now, have a good week!
